The material is able to withstand, wear, pressure or damage. The class goes up to highest cost, Class 500 where the item is very expensive, high value but do not take up much space, low density. It\u2019s a rare shipment. All Less than a Load, LTL shipping comes under one of the 18 classification codes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) defines the freight classes and makes them available through the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmfta.org\/pages\/nmfc\">National Motor Freight Classification<\/a>&nbsp;(NMFC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NMFC classification is based on four main factors:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Density<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Density weight per cubic foot of each piece, or the space an item occupies in relation to weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Commodities with a higher density comes under a lower freight class. These commodities are more compact and easier to ship.<\/li><li>High-density commodities are cheaper to ship than bulky, low-density.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Handling<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Handling &#8211; any unique handling or care requirements needed during transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fragile or hazardous items may require special accommodations and are more expensive to ship because of its higher class.<\/li><li>Shape, weight, and size determines the ease of handling which may increase cost.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><b><u>Stow-ability<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stowability is how a commodity can be loaded and transported with other commodities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If an item is difficult to stow with other items, it will have a higher freight class. It is more expensive to ship.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Liability<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liability covers the likelihood of freight theft, damage, or damage to nearby loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If a commodity is perishable, it has a higher liability and costs more to ship.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are You Shipping Freight?
